The following are some examples of things that I've done most recently with some thoughts from the people I've worked for.
"Ken has been almost-but-not-quite overwhelmingly committed to the project we worked on together. His time was invaluable to us, his patience was recognised in any problems we hit, and the quality of the product is much higher and more robust than I could have imagined, given the amount of time and resources available."
Oliver Entwisle, Dynamic Earth
"I worked with Ken on developing a hands-on interactive to interpret how steam locomotives work. I was impressed with his creative, out-of-the box thinking and keen attention to the interpretive and learning goals behind the interactive. The client appreciated his emphasis on using standard parts in the design in order to make upkeep and maintenance easy for on-site staff - for when components inevitably wear out from energetic use!"

"We’ve been working with Ken Boyd on and off for about 18 months. We run a hands-on, interactive exhibition that gets heavily used (and sometimes abused) by visitors. Our exhibits have been acquired from many sources, or built in-house over a long period. Visitors love the place, but it is a challenge to keep everything working and to develop new exhibits that are up to the demands placed on them.
Ken has been helping us look at how we create, design and construct exhibits, with easy maintenance built in. He is helping us streamline our work so that we can be more productive, with less waste (especially in terms of our time and effort), and helping us with our quality control. He has a deep and varied skill and knowledge set, e.g. in terms of understanding the functionality requirements of hands on exhibits, and that the only way to ensure proper functioning is prototyping with visitors. With big jobs in particular, Ken has helped us troubleshoot our processes and has sourced people to assist. With smaller jobs he has sourced new companies and materials for us to work with. He is mentoring our management and technical team in order to make us self-sufficient with better practices, and ‘raise our game’ in order to further delight our visitors. We feel very fortunate to be working with him, and highly recommend his services."

"Ken has been absolutely pivotal in turning our vague ideas of an exhibit into concrete reality and we can't recommend him highly enough for his efficiency, professionalism and flair. He really is one of the best we've worked with"

"Ken has done some fantastic work with us as a consultant helping to design an exhibit for the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition. We approached Ken after meeting him at a Royal Society event and receiving advice from him on how we might turn our very basic thoughts into an exhibit. Ken is clearly very well thought of in this arena and has a wealth of experience in exhibit design which we have benefited hugely from.
After an initial consultation he took our fairly basic ideas and came up with a variety of different suggestions based on our limited budget and abilities . His highly tailored approach has allowed us to understand the benefits and pitfalls of different options and to understand which approach is best for our team.
Ken produced scaled drawings for us including detailed plans on how we might undertake the physical set-up of our exhibit up as well as advising on specific furniture/items we might want to buy. He suggested a variety of methods for presenting our graphics and advised on the materials we could work with. Throughout our work together Ken has been flexible, highly responsive and a pleasure to work with.
We would highly recommend Ken to anyone looking for a design consultant to work with."
